2. Evidence: I'm not allowed to take any pictures at my service learning but i still secretly took this one.
Literal:
a) I, Sakshi, affirm that I completes my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.
b) I volunteered at the the Davita Dialysis Center in El Monte which is the same place I do my service learning at.
Interpretive:
Every week I would go to El Monte on Monday and Thurdays for about 4 hours a week. One thing I really learnt was that there is a really big language barrier with the nurses and patients. Majority of the patients speak spanish and the nurses sometimes find it hard to understand them. I think it's important for nurses to learn a second language cause in the long run it will help them.
Applied:
Volunteering at the dialysis center has given me an insight of what I'm going to be experiencing later on in life. I got to see what works and what doesn't work in the dialysis center. I've been talking to the different nurses that work there. They have a lot of words of wisdom and whenever they can they let me either set up the dialysis machines or give the patients the medicine. The nurses told me it was a good idea for me to get my nursing degree during my undergraduate degree because nursing school take like 5 years on top of your undergraduate.
Grade: P
ReplyDeletePros: I think your early exposure to nursing will pave a secure job in your professional future. Excellent work planning ahead, Sakshi!
Cons: I am not clear about what you did for 4 hours every time you clocked in…What does a typical day look like for you? Can you give a minute-by-minute breakdown? Are you planning on learning Spanish? Did you learn anything specific about pharmaceuticals?
